About Us

The Friends of Scarborough Marsh is coalition of of concerned citizens, landowners, businesses, state and federal agencies, environmental organizations, and others. We have in common our love for the Scarborough Marsh and our commitment to safeguard it for generations to come.

Established in 2000, we are an all-volunteer group dedicated to the conservation, protection, restoration, and enhancement of the Scarborough Marsh watershed.

Our efforts include:

• Studies to understand challenges and potential for restoration

• Saltmarsh restoration projects

• Land conservation initiatives

• Education and public outreach

• Special events including clean-ups, educational programs, and fundraisers to support our efforts

Scarborough Marsh.

Whether you have a little or a lot of time, if you want to have a positive effect on Scarborough Marsh, decide what you think fits your interest and get involved. Our Partners

The Friends of Scarborough Marsh is a grass roots organiztion that pulls together the community support, facilitates the leverage of financial resources, and leads the monitoring program of various restoration projects. We also work with partners to achieve land conservation initiatives and promote education and outreach.

With respect to restoration, the core partnership group includes the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SWAMP Inc., centered in harmony with the Friends of Scarborough Marsh. In addition each phase of the project has had project specific associate partners, along with different funding partners for each phase.
