Fifty Years and Counting At our Installation Dinner at the Higgins Beach Inn on Thursday, June 16th, Lion El Sprague and Lion Eldred Harmon were recognized for fifty years of service in the Scarborough Lions Club. Our club now has three members with fifty years or more in the club. Lion Len Libby has fifty-two years with our club this year. What a contribution to the community these three Lions have made, thank-you all.
HELP! Cruisin' Nites begin in July. This is a new club project designed to give us community visibility. We do a lot for our town, but it is behind the scenes for the most part. We do not have as much involvement with our citizens as we could. I hope you all saw the article in the Neighbors section of the Portland Press Herald on Thursday June 23rd. It was "Got an antique car? Show it off on Saturdays." The paper did a nice article for us, for FREE. I sent press releases out to the local papers, and radio stations. Sam's Club has graciously offered us use of the front corner of their parking lot at the intersection of Gorham Road and Payne Road. They are being very good to us, and supportive of the community. Peter is working on "Oldies" music for us, we will have Organ Donor cards available for the public, and Jan has offered to come notarize them for us on the spot. Carolee Roberts-Black has offered to come to the event and offer chair massages, and has offered to donate half of what she takes in to our club. We will have David Wood's hot dog wagon there, and will be selling hot dogs and sodas. Sam's Club has offered to match the funds we raise at the events. Sam's Club may be giving out 1-day passes to the public to go in and check their store out. We are planning on 5 Saturdays, 3-7pm in July and 4 in August. August 20th the hot dog wagon will be at Summer-Fest for the day, so will not be at the Cruisin' Nite, but we will still hold the Cruisin' Nite. The

Cruisin' Nite will not be held if it rains, so we may lose a few Saturday nights, because the owners of these antique cars and vehicles, won't want to bring their treasures out in the rain. This is a chance for our club to meet lots of local people, and maybe find some new members. We need a couple Lions to park the antique cars in the lot, and some to work on the hot dog wagon, cooking and collecting money. I realize that it is a lot to ask of you, being summer and all, but I need help. You do not need to work every Saturday, I'm not asking for that. I myself, am working 2 of the days (at my real job) and will miss the first half of the event, and I will not be there for the August 13th date, I will be away. Except for that 1 day, I am planning to be there for the rest. We should know after the first couple dates if this is even going to fly, it may not. With no pre-registration or entry process, I have no way to know how many antique autos will attend. Please try to make the first couple weeks and we can go from there. This could be a great fun club project, but we need Lions there to be visible, I need your support. Thanks.
P.S. If you can't help this Saturday, I will need help next Saturday.
Double-Paned Windows Last year a young girl of a certain well-known hair color replaced all the windows in her house with those expensive double pane energy efficient kind. But last month she got a call from the contractor complaining that his work had been completed a whole year ago and she had yet to pay for them. They had a long discussion about the payment, and she finally said "Just because I am a young girl of a certain hair color, doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid." So she proceeded to tell him just what his fast talking sales guy had told her last year…. That in one year the windows would pay for themselves. There was silence on the other end of the line, so she hung up and has not heard another word. Not so stupid.
