What's Happening?
King Lion Jerry stayed in Ohio until he killed that last deer. Did you know that we have donated $25,000 to Project Grace since they began their good work in Scarborough? The Lewiston-Auburn Lions are looking for old used computer cartridges to recycle. We continue to loan out hospital equipment on a regular basis, loaning out a shower stool a walker, a commode and a wheelchair in the first week of December. The lights were up n our Christmas tree in front of town hall in time for our Christmas tree lighting. Lions Don Mitchell, Ed Leslie, Bob Holmes, Len Libby and Bill Pape put the lights up and the signs around town after Thanksgiving. Lion Bruce Publicover recruited a great Santa for the tree lighting for me, John Cole did a fantastic job, Thanks. Bruce. Lion John Flaherty fell in his driveway and fractured his hip, and Lion Norm Brown is doing better, he is adjourning our meetings via the telephone. At our December board of Directors' meeting we received a $12 refund from the $125 Santa candy and gift raffles, so that only cost $113 in the end. We voted to donate 250 to Sweetser Homes, $159 to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, $100 to ITN, $100 to Camp Susan Ccurtis, $250 to the Brice Roberts Fund, and $100 to the Root Cellar for our Christmas giving. The Boy Scouts did an excellent job with the December roast beef dinner, and although we ended up with $1001.30 profit, the board voted to give them a check for $1500 for a job well-done. We received a

Christmas card from Eldred Harmon in Florida, and a $25 check from Almeida Urquhart and a thank-you for the newsletter. You're welcome. And, just before Christmas, I received a phone call from Kevin O'Connor at Sam's Club, to come pick up the check for the Civic Grant for holding our Antique car Cruisin' Nites in the Sam;s Club parking lot over the summer. Sam's Club has been very good to us, again, we love them. Thank-you, Kevin and Sam's Club.
Recognizing a Stroke
A simple fall could actually be the result of a stroke. In the first three hours after a stroke, the effects can be totally reversed, and brain damage avoided, provided medical attention is obtained. If you suspect a stroke, follow these three steps. 1. Ask the individual to SMILE. 2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. 3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE, (Coherently) i.e….It is sunny out today. If the person has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately. Be a friend.
