What's Happening
At the Board of directors' meeting in December, we voted to round the check for the Boy Scouts roast beef dinner, up from the $1208.08 profit, to $1300. George G., Bruce and Peter did a great job with the new door for the furnace room. Due to a recent fire in town, we will be replenishing the $200 that the Fire Chief has to assist the fire's
victims  with money for shelter and immediate needs. Our Christmas time donations included: $250 to Laurie's Kids, a Standish Lions' project for Holiday parties for mentally ill children and adults, $300 for Scarborough Community Services Winter Carnival on January 15th, (rain date January 16th). I will be needing 3 Lions to judge the Little Miss Scarborough Pageant,  $150 to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, $100 to the Root Cellar in Portland, $300 to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels Program, $250 to Sweetser Homes, $100 to Camp Susan Curtis, $500 to purchase toys for the Toys for Tots tree at the John Roberts Road Bingo Hall, (Jan and I had fun buying the teen gifts), and we approved $6,400 to purchase 2 new heavy-duty stretchers for the new Rescue at the Oak Hill Fire Station, which is the busiest fire station in the state of Maine. Kay
reported that our Lions' Christmas Tree lighting went well on, though the crowd was smaller than usual. We performed vision screening, and Santa did an excellent job. Thank-you to all who helped with the tree lighting, and with the candy bagging at our first December meeting. It was wonderful to

have four of our new Lions assist with the bagging. We also put a check for $500 to the Salvation Army, into the kettle when we rang the bell for them on the second Saturday of the month. I'm not saying any names, but the keeper of the check, (our President) had to be called hours after he missed his shift ringing the bell, to come down to put the check into the bucket. He was paired with one of our new Lions, who was not familiar with the bell-ringing routine, and did not have a phone number to call to ask where his partner was. When reached hours later, our president was playing on the
computer, and had completely forgotten about the
ringing.
Hunting season is over, and he's still not with us yet.
