Singer/Songwriter Carolyn Currie

July 6.

Carolyn Currie has always been drawn to music. Raised on a diet of the Beatles, Judy Collins, Simon and Garfunkle, James Taylor, traditional folk and classical music, Carolyn was exposed to a variety of great music thanks to her parents and older siblings. For a kid who loved singing everywhere and all the time, picking up a guitar at 12 seemed like the next logical step. Her unique voice was enhanced by a natural propensity for finger picking. It wasn't long before she began writing her own music. "Writing songs just came naturally - it felt peaceful and fulfilling." But Carolyn wasn't to embrace music as a career until later. A native of Concord, Massachusetts, she was fascinated by the poets and authors from her hometown - Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, and Nathaniel Hawthorn (to name a few). Carolyn attended Colby College in Waterville, ME where she became an English major. She gained an appreciation for "break your heart" kind of writing that she found in poets such as Randall Jarrell and Emily Dickinson. This became a time to hone her writing skill in a formal way.

Ledgendary Maine Performer Annie Clark

July 13.

In the spring of 2006, Annie Clark was nominated for "Female Vocalist of the Year" in the Texas Music Awards, based on her performance on her newest CD release Annie Clark "LIVE"! Recorded in Harrison, ME. The disc showcases 15 of Annie’s most requested songs, including "I’m from Maine" plus "Between the Rungss" . With thousands of gigs and miles, and six solo albums under her belt, this Maine native’s passion for communication through her Loyal audience. Here infectious style might be described as "original folk, pop, & blues with a dash of Maine hume-ah" Annie has also teamed up with Maine songwriters Dan Merrill & Lynn Deevees, forming the trio known as "under the song tree". They were voted into the top of the list of favorites at the "New Artist Showcase" at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and were voted "Folk Artist of the Year" at Jam Music Magazine in 2002! Recently, Annie has collaborated with other Maine Artist to produce showcasses called "Maine Meets Nashiville" (at the Bluebird Café) and "Maine Meets Boston" (Johnny D’s, Sommerville).

Dan Merrill with Simon Apple Band

July 20,

Two Philadelphia musicians, Buzz Saylor & Jeff Miller, formed Simon Apple with the intentions of writing material that combined their favorite elements of pop, progressive rock, and jazz, coupled with positive hopeful, thought-provoking, even humorous messages. After their first release in 1998, Simon Apple has performed for Elton John, Billy Joel, Cher, Bruce Springsteen, and Eagles. After almost 2 years in the making, Simon Apple’s long awaited new album, "River to the Sea", was released. This album is quite a bit more complex than previous albums. The album is also graced by some world renowned guest artists that the Apple have admired and been fans for years that have performed with; Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, John Lennon, Blue Oyster Cult, Suppertramp, Electric Light Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett to name a few. Simon Apple is donating a portion of every sale of River to the Sea to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. A favorite of young and old, Dan has performed in our concert series since it’s inception 5 years ago

Nashville and Scarborough's Own Don Campbell Band

July 27.

A self-taught instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Don's fresh but familiar voice has taken him from his hometown of Scarborough, Maine to his second home in Nashville, Tennessee - and just about everywhere in between. Averaging over 100 performances each year performing as a soloist and with his full band. The Don Campbell Band has been blessed with extremely talented musicians, including current members Andy Happel, Tonya Shevenell, Sumner McKane, and Todd Richard. The Don Campbell Band has opened for country music legends. like Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith, Kenny Rogers and many others. It's no wonder Don and his Band were invited to kick off the New England Country Music Festival last summer, held at Gillette Stadium with over 40,000 country music fans. This came on the heels of other recognition in the New England area. Don was named Maine's Best Singer Songwriter (Maine Sunday Telegram, Annual Readers Poll, March 2004 & 2005) and Country Artist of the Year (Jam Music Magazine, April 2004). The Band is a three-time Boston Music Award nominee for Country Act of the Year (2003-2005). When speaking of songwriting influences, Don cites Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, the Beatles, the Celtic and Canadian Maritimes roots music of his family, and another fellow Maine native, writer Stephen King. "I strongly believe that Stephen King's On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, should be required reading for any songwriter.
